Established under the Land Surveyors Act

Established under the Land Surveyors Act, 1975 and guided by by-laws, BALS serves as a collective voice for the profession on both national and international stages.

Newly Elected Leadership

Our newly elected leadership (as of 2025) has renewed BALS’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and active member engagement. In a strategic move to enhance advocacy, BALS recently aligned with the Bahamas Trade Union Congress, strengthening our capacity to represent members’ interests at policy-making levels.

BALS - More Than A Professional Body

BALS is more than a professional body; we are partners in national development. Our members contribute expertise to critical issues like land reform, sustainable development, and public access to land. BALS has actively participated in the development of a National Action Plan for Land Reform and Geospatial Innovation, advocating the use of modern technology for equitable and sustainable land management. We champion the public interest – for example, BALS has raised alarm about threats to public beach access and parklands, underscoring our role in safeguarding Bahamian land heritage.

BALS: A Partner in National Development
BALS: A Collaborator

By collaborating with government agencies, educational institutions, and civil society groups, BALS strives to ensure that land surveying in The Bahamas remains innovative, inclusive, and aligned with the nation’s needs. We are proud to foster partnerships (such as with the Bahamas Institute of STEM & Innovation) that empower the next generation of surveyors and geospatial professionals, ensuring a legacy of excellence and innovation in our field.
